Sounds too good to be true? It gets better!
Believe it or not in this case we are probably talking about multi-million dollar business.
I am not kidding. I am not the kind of guy to make this stuff up – just read some of my other posts.
UPDATE: 7 November – One of the beta testers has asked to invest
In July this year, I met a smart, amiable Ben Affleck look-alike named Spencer in Portland at the World Domination Summit where he excitedly shared his idea for a business with me. He then proceeded to tell me about the challenges he was faced with. The biggest of which was that he was trying to learn how to build a software business from scratch while learning how to do the coding as well.
I could feel his pain – I had been there too.
He had an awesome idea and was motivated to execute but had a wall of work in front of him – Perhaps he just needed a little help to guide him?
A few moments later we discovered we both live in the same town – Toronto, Canada.
Little did he know, I was looking for someone just like him.
Not necessarily someone from Toronto, but someone I could really help to build their business and record it for a podcast so that others could learn along with us.
Toronto was a bonus because it meant I could record our sessions on video as well.
After a few weeks I met up with Spencer again in a coffee shop with his business partner – Darcy. At the meeting we discussed what I wanted to do and what they wanted to achieve to see if we could be a match. We agreed to meet up weekly and record a podcast and video until their business was off the ground, and that is exactly what we have done.
I have recorded and documented the whole process to help you build your business.
Each episode also has worksheets and materials as well as copies of the work they did so that you can build your own business.
I also made sure that the theory we are applying could be applied to any number of other businesses.
Basically I have created worksheets, audio and video where you build or grow you own business and follow a winning case study.
What the guys have achieved so far;
- Customers who are highly engaged in helping to build their product
- A work in progress mock-up of their online service (following minimum viable product principles) in a big, very lucrative market
- A product that will be launched in January 2014 for beta testing
- A website with a blog showing their progress
Of course the guys still have a lot of work in front of them (just like any business) but in my opinion they are on a sound footing with a strong plan.
No doubt they have come a long way in a very short time and both guys work full time jobs too.
Could they have done it without me?
Of course, everyone can build a business like this, but there is no doubt I have been able to add significant value and together we have created some magic that will go on to help many others I hope.
Pure gold – you can use to build your business with.
But don’t just take my word for it
For fun, I asked Spencer and Darcy about their progress after three months working with me.
Here is what they said (at a local coffee shop)
Here is the transcript
Quinn: Quinn here from Building a Cubicle Free Business and I’m here with Spencer and Darcy and we’ve just completed another session where we’ve been working with their business for a few months now. And we’ve got twelve podcasts in the can already. We’re about to edit them and get them out. So I just wanted to get you guys feedback on how far you’ve come in three months.
Darcy: It’s been amazing growth. I mean like we started off with thinking how we should build this business. And you know, we’ve completely revamped a lot of it like how we’re going to build our software, how we’re approaching getting the clients and trying to make sure that, you know, we’re doing it at the least cost to us but really partnering with our customers. I think that’s an amazing growth.
Quinn: Awesome.
Spencer: I don’t even recognize where we were three months ago. Like it’s just a completely—where we were three months ago wasn’t even really a business. It’s just kind of a product idea that we both thought was kind of cool and had some legs. But now, this has really developed into something that is a fledgling business. Like we’ve really got people interested in this, and now there’s actually a couple of professors that want to have these follow-up meetings and want to have real discussions about what this is going to look like in their classroom. So like that’s just actually being at this point has been incredible.
Quinn: Awesome, man.
Spencer: So like we’re really looking forward to the next couple of months..
Quinn: And I’m looking forward to getting this podcast out.
[laughter]
Quinn: Because I think it’s going to knock the socks off a lot of people. It’s going to really show them how they can build a business fast.
Spencer: Yeah.
Quinn: You haven’t spent a—well, what have we spent? Ten dollars so far? Two, five dollars?
Spencer: You know what? I think total’s actually been as high as about $35.
Quinn: Whoa.
Spencer: Yeah.
Quinn: Awesome, guys. Thank you very much and I’m very excited to get this podcast out there and for everybody to learn along with us.
Spencer: Thanks a lot, Quinn.
Spencer: Thank you very much.
Quinn: Cheers, Darcy and Spencer.
In December I will be launching the first episode!
After that I will be rolling out weekly episodes.
If you want to be the first to know about when this podcast is live by simply adding your email address below (if I do not have it already!)
I also want to send you something of immediate value to get you started, so I will send the tools I have been recommending to Darcy and Spencer to help build their business.

Hey Irwin! Thanks man – that means a lot to me.
A podcast is something I have wanted to do for a long time (it seems) – I really wanted to do something special and powerful.
Time will tell my friend. My gut tells me I think may have found something that can be really helpful to a lot of folks!
Yes, lets catch up.

This really looks like a great case study! I love the focus on building a real businesses as opposed to just creating websites that make money. Very excited about it. Thanks!
