How do you get an inexpensive yet awesome logo designed on Fiverr?
First, a confession.
Until about six months ago I didn’t even know what Fiverr was – now I use it weekly.
For those of you who may not know, Fiverr is a great way to do all manner of task-sourced things for – you guessed it — a Fiverr ($5).
In the past six months I have done a whole bunch of cool things on Fiverr – including having a song written for some videos, opt-in boxes, research projects, SEO, some small graphic design projects and a whole bunch of logos.
Not everything I do on Fiverr works out great; but most works out way better than expected and I now know a few tips and tricks when it comes to creating logos that I want to share.
I also recently wrote an article comparing Fiverr to 99 Designs and the feedback I got through emails and comments was amazing. Most people just wanted to know the name of the designer I used. I can understand why people would want to just get the name of the designer. And while the designer I used worked out great, I know that the Tips and Tricks I can share are far more valuable.
The Test
To put my tips to the test I tested my own ability. Could I create an awesome logo, knowing what I know now and using a completely different designer than I had used before?
The problem I had was that I didn’t have any logo to create – so I asked a blogger friend of mine, Matt from Dumb Passive Income, if I could do a logo for him. Matt is a truck driver and father of three, but also keeps an active blog and makes some sweet passive income through websites. As you can imagine Matt is a pretty busy guy. He starts most days at 5am to work on his websites and blog for a couple of hours before helping his wife get his young children ready to go to school. It’s guys like Matt who need to focus their attention on making money online, not on attempting to be a graphic designer, too. But like most entrepreneurs, Matt is frugal to a fault.
So when I saw this:
For $5 I went ahead and made him these:
Matt chose Concept 3!
It was super fun giving these logos to Matt – I actually got them ALL for $5. This is what he said in an email to me:
“I never would have thought to use Fiverr for logo or graphic design. I was amazed at the results, as the designer actually produced 3 awesome and different designs for me to choose from. The quality is incredible and you can’t beat the price!” -Matthew Allen
Tips and Tricks
3 Tips to Get the Best Results:
- Always search for designers by keyword “Logo” and by “Rating” for best results. I found the default setting of “Auto” does not necessarily return the best results. You want to know how others rate this person, not “Auto” – whatever that means.
- Do not be turned off by long “Est. Delivery” dates. Sometimes this can mean you are just dealing with someone good. In the example above my designer took the maximum allowable time to generate the logo, which is two weeks.
- Finally, make sure the designer has clear instructions on what you are after. A common mistake for many people is to not put much effort into the process just because they are paying only 5 bucks – You know what they say, “s*it in means you get s*it out”
The Importance of Getting an EPS (or Vector format) Logo
An EPS or Vector format logo enables another designer or printer to scale your logo without loss of quality. Not having an EPS usually only becomes an issue if you need to print the logo or make changes to your logo later on. Even if you don’t think you need this, it’s a good idea to have it. You never know. EPS gives you the most control over your logo.
Most designers at Fiverr do not offer an EPS or Logo in Vector format because they can make another $5 or $10 or even $15 by up-selling you on getting one after they have delivered the logo. I think many designers probably rely on upselling you to an EPS to make it work.
Good for them I say. AND you should go ahead and do it unless you are on an extremely tight budget.
Why It Works For $5
I hope I have shown how you can do a lot for yourself and your business with just five bucks. But, despite what I say here and any evidence I can show, many people will still choose vastly more expensive options.
The reason why Fiverr can remain inexpensive and still be an excellent way to create websites is two-fold.
- $5 is a lot of money in some countries, but even so that is only part of the story.
- Efficiency: Designers on Fiverr who get the best ratings for logo designs have systems and processes to ensure the job gets done as efficiently as possible. Starting with the questions they ask right through to delivery and handover, designers on Fiverr have no choice but to design very streamlined systems.
The Downside of Fiverr Logos
To be honest, I do not think you can go wrong with a cheap logo that looks professional. Just follow the steps above. As I mentioned, Fiverr designs can take a couple of weeks (although this is still relatively quick) and you may not get something that will be the next “Nike” logo every time. But so far I’ve often been surprised by how great the results are.
If you have a budget and want a logo that goes beyond just something that looks nice, I believe crowdsourcing is the way to go. For example, I used 99Designs crowdsourced logos for the logo on this website – follow my tips for 99 Designs here.

And here is the dumb part Quinn… Right about the time you delivered that logo to me was the same time I decided to put my efforts on that site on hold. I haven’t even installed it as my header on that site!
I do need a new header for Dumb Passive Income. I think you’ve convinced me to give it a try. Plus, as you know my focus has shifted to niche sites, and this is a no-brainer method to use for header graphics for those. I still stubbornly spend my own time designing those.
Thanks for the kind words, link and short bio Quinn. I’ll be sure to return the favor soon.

I haven’t created my own logo as i wanted to before just because i don’t have a Paypal account as they don’t accept my country but, I’ve decided for a friend to make the payment for me and i will certainly use fiverr.
Thanks a lot for sharing my man.

Hey Theodore!
Bummer about Paypal but glad to see you are working your way around the challenge. There are other services like fiverr too that may work for you just as well – I just cant recommend them and havent used them myself but the talent who is doing the work is likely just as good.
Cheers, Quinn
